There is no reason for an active bass to be louder than a passive. The only constant difference is impedance. The current trend is actually opposite, with active preamps aiming for unity levels and passive pickups with giants poles and output. Rich Fiscus, Kro, equill and 3 others like this. JazznFunk. Mar 26, 2000. Asheville, NC. Depends on the passive bass in question, and the tonal needs at hand. But - overall I prefer active basses in general, mainly because there's no danger of 'loading' the signal down with passive, un-buffered pickups.
stefandisgust. May 28, 2006. Boston, Massachusetts. Spector Basses-New Artist. Ibanez BTB 5.I know its 18 volts which is 2 9 volts but they actuly told me its passive and they are for the EQ not a Preamp.Great bass no more that $480. Jul 2, 2006 #3.
Oct 26, 2008. Cape Fear! I have an active Soundgear 300DX, passive Peavey Foundation V and a passive Ric 4003. While the Ibanez can get any sound imaginable, both the others make it feel and sound like a toy. To me with passive you can hear the wood better, but like others have said, can't get the versatility with it either. Jul 13, 2009 #12.
Passive Radiators vs Bass Reflex Speakers Bass reflex speakers, also known as ported speakers, are a type of speaker that uses a port or vent to enhance low-frequency response. Like passive radiators, they use a resonant cavity to achieve a deeper, more powerful bass sound.
